Sunday Dinner - Italian Beef Sandwiches

This recipe for Italian Beef Sandwiches is so simple and delicious, it'll become a staple in your kitchen. Best of all, it's another excuse to break out the Instant Pot. Like we needed one anyway! Be sure to check out how to make your own Italian seasoning down below.

Italian Beef Sandwiches


Total Time: About 2 Hours

Servings: 10-12 Servings


  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 teaspoons ground black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 2 teaspoons dried basil
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 3 cups water
  • 2 teaspoons dried parsley
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 2/3 ounce package Italian salad dressing mix (see recipe for homemade below)
  • 5 pound chuck roast
  • French bread


Combine the water, salt, ground black pepper, oregano, basil, onion powder, parsley, garlic powder, bay leaf, and salad dressing mix in Instant Pot.

Stir well and use the "Saute" function to bring just to a boil.

Place roast in Instant Pot and spoon mixture over the roast.

Switch Instant Pot to "Pressure Cook" on high and set to 60-80 minutes (60 for 3 pound roast, 80 for a 5 pound). Place lid on the pot and turn to locked position. Make sure the vent is set to the sealed position.

When the cooking time is up, natural release the pressure cooker for 10 minutes (don't touch anything on the Instant Pot, simply let it depressurize on it's own for 10 minutes). After 10 minutes, turn vent to the venting release position and allow all of the steam to vent and the float valve to drop down before removing the lid.

Remove the bay leaf and shred the meat.

Serve with French Bread or any crusty bread of your choice and Marconi Hot Giardiniera

Ninja Tips:

  • If you don't like a lot of seasoning, cut the recipe in half.

  • If using a smaller Instant Pot, use 1 1/2 cups of water and cut your chuck roast in half or to a size that will fit into the pot.

  • This can also be made in the slow cooker. Boil the water and seasonings on the stove top. Then cook in a slow cooker for on low for 10-12 hours or on high for 4-5.

Italian Salad Dressing Mix


Total Time: 5 Minutes

Servings: 8 Tablespoons


  • 1 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 Tablespoon onion powder
  • 2 Tablespoons oregano leaves
  • 1 Tablespoon dried parsley
  • 1 Tablespoon sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil leaves
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon thyme leaves or ground thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried celery leaves or dried celery flakes


Mix all ingredients together and store in an air-tight container.
